The Story

He came to train soldiers, but his enemies became his teachers. In The Last Samurai, Tom Cruise plays Nathan Algren, a battle-hardened American soldier hired to train Japan's Imperial Army. But after a disastrous battle, he finds himself wounded, captured, and living among the very warriors he was sent to defeat. Once a respected military instructor, he now faces the humiliation of being a beginner, repeatedly defeated on the practice ground. And what happens next is about much more than learning to use a sword.
